Now is the time for solutions and not for warning strikes

BDA AGENDA 05/21 | COMMENT OF THE WEEK

Dr. Stefan Wolf, President Gesamtmetall | Gesamtverband der Arbeitgeberverbände der Metall- und Elektro-Industrie e.V. (German Confederation of Metal and Electrical Industry Employers' Associations)

Berlin, 5 March 2021.

The IG Metall warning strikes in the current round of collective bargaining for the metal and electrical industry really have nothing to do with the current state of negotiations. The union decided and planned its warning strikes long in advance. This alone makes it clear that IG Metall did not want a quick solution in the peace period. It feels it has to offer its members warning strikes. Neither the companies nor the majority of the workers have any understanding for this in this extremely difficult time. Now is the time for solutions and not for warning strikes.
