We in Brussels

Europe keeps us busy. With our expertise as a social partner, we help shape European policy. Together with the BDI, we form the European voice of the entire German economy.

One team. Two locations. We are committed to our European concerns from both Brussels and Berlin and contribute our expertise as social partners to EU and federal policy. The European Department of the BDA continuously analyses what current legislative proposals of the European Union would mean for the German economy and jobs.

In doing so, we are in continuous dialogue with the European institutions in order to be able to contribute our expertise as social partners at an early stage. The European Department serves here as a mouthpiece vis-à-vis the players in the Commission, in the Parliament and in the Council and, of course, in federal politics.The intensive exchange of information with all BDA member associations in Germany is also part of our core business.

Together with our European sister associations, the BDA helps to shape the positioning of European business at the umbrella organisation BusinessEurope.And the BDA is just as actively involved in the European social dialogue. Our main focus is on the areas of economy, labour market, social affairs and education. Labour market and social policy issues in particular have become increasingly important in EU policy in recent decades. Here, the European Department advocates the principle that social progress only works on the basis of economic success.

Overarching issues are also not left without the BDA's say - especially where we need more Europe: What direction will the European Union take in the future?How should the internal market, how should the economic and monetary union develop?
