Berlin, 15 December 2020. Securing the training of young people is of crucial importance for employers and trade unions alike at the transition from school to the world of work, despite the Corona crisis. We share a responsibility here. The journey of this young generation, too, with the more difficult conditions of the Corona year 2020, into good and skilled work must begin now. The companies' way out of the pandemic-related crisis can only succeed with sufficient skilled workers in industry, trade and crafts.
The training year has already started, but there are still open training positions and young people are still looking for a place. Starting an apprenticeship is still possible in December and the following months and is not unusual in the Corona year.
That is why we appeal to young people: Actively look for a training place now! Take advantage of the placement offers of the Federal Employment Agency! This can be done digitally or with on-site assistance. We also appeal to teachers and parents to support young people in their search for a training place.
At the same time, we are calling on companies in Germany: Continue to offer apprenticeships, get actively involved in the follow-up placement process to fill your vacancies now! Support career orientation with internships for school students. Wherever possible, despite difficult conditions, plan as many training places as possible for the 2021 training year!
We are certain that a powerful new start after the crisis will be made easier if a young, well-trained generation is involved in all areas of our social and economic life. The more companies provide for future skilled workers with their own training this year and in the coming year, the better this will succeed.
