Employers' President Dr. Rainer Dulger on the 2025 Bundestag elections:
The economy cannot wait
Berlin, February 24, 2025: “The CDU/CSU has won the election and I congratulate Friedrich Merz. He has a clear government mandate to reform our country. Germany needs a real economic turnaround.
This turnaround would have been easier with a strong liberal voice. I regret the departure of the FDP.
The economy cannot wait: We need to form a government quickly. Every day that no action is taken is a day lost for the location.
What counts for me is not color theory, but what is written in the coalition agreement. An economic turnaround must be translated into concrete policy and legislation.
All the issues are known: We need to comprehensively modernize our country in order to return to economic strength. A strong economy is in everyone's interest - for companies, employees and society alike. Solving our problems now requires courage, but also a willingness to compromise on all sides.
The last few weeks have intensified the economic policy challenges due to the political changes in the USA. A strong Germany and a strong Europe have become even more necessary. A probable coalition between the CDU/CSU and SPD must therefore forge a pact for Germany and Europe that meets these demands. Their historical responsibility also lies in regaining a strong center through successful policies.
I wish all those involved the necessary strength, but also sufficient fortune to achieve this. As social partners, we will play a constructive role in this.”
