Employer President Dr. Rainer Dulger explains the GDL strike:
"Irregular strikes harm the country"
Berlin, January 24, 2024: "This strike is disproportionate. The union is abusing the labor dispute. It is damaging the reputation of collective bargaining autonomy. Strikes are a legitimate means of supporting collective bargaining demands.
However, it goes too far when the population, which has nothing to do with this dispute, is repeatedly affected over a period of weeks. Not to mention the economic damage: Every day of strike action costs our economy around 100 million euros.
Once again it is clear that strikes without rules are damaging the country. It is right that politicians are starting to think about rules for fair strikes. This is particularly urgent in the infrastructure sector."
