Employers' President Dr. Rainer Dulger comments on the results of the European elections on 9 June 2024:
Hope for a stable democratic majority - European policy change must also be accompanied by a national economic turnaround
Berlin, June 10, 2024: "The result gives hope for Europe and creates a clear expectation of democratic stability in the EU. It is a clear mandate from the center of the Parliament to enforce competitiveness and stability even against the fringes. The policies of the EU institutions must reflect on their strengths and seize the opportunity to realign themselves over the next five years. However, new times also require a change of course for a better EU.
This European policy change must finally be accompanied by a national economic turnaround. Expectations of the Ampel government's activation package are high in the economy and should therefore not be disappointed once again.
We need a Europe that strengthens its strategic competitiveness and security. Concrete steps against the shortage of skilled workers and functioning labor mobility in the internal market are finally necessary. Employers expect fewer bureaucratic burdens and more support for entrepreneurship.
We want to enter into a close dialog with the pro-European forces in the EU Parliament in order to jointly shape the necessary change of course. We now need a new EU Commission that is willing to act quickly to implement this. Finding a majority in the EU Parliament has become more difficult. We call on all democratic parties to work closely together to prevent populist parties from influencing the future of the EU. "
