Berlin, 6 April 2021. At the start of the week, good news from the business community: just a few weeks after our appeal to companies to offer their employees regular tests wherever possible, we can now report on successes: Between 80 and 90 percent of German companies are testing or preparing to start testing immediately.
This commitment shows what the business community can achieve in a short time with entrepreneurial spirit and pragmatism - without bureaucracy and legal regulation. It is true that the test offer is easier to implement for larger companies in terms of organization and procurement. But small and medium-sized companies have also responded to our call. This is only possible through the quick, pragmatic and unbureaucratic commitment of the companies, a comprehensive use of self-tests as well as the trust in the personal responsibility of the employees.
Of course, there are also challenges. These include supply difficulties and procurement problems, time-consuming organisation of the tests in companies as well as hesitant acceptance of the test offer among employees and, in addition, legal uncertainties. However, we believe that if we continue on the basis of the appeal, i.e. on the basis of voluntariness, pragmatism and a focus on results, we will be able to continue our success story.
We have presented the actions and results in a Status report linked here presented. They demonstrate the effective support of German industry and prove that with our voluntary commitment - together with the further, governmental testing activities - a broad infection coverage is possible and the containment of the pandemic can be effectively supported. At the same time, we reiterate our commitment to be highly involved in vaccination activities as soon as possible.
