At the start of the "Summer of Vocational Training", employer president Dr. Rainer Dulger explains:
Almost 3 million people are without vocational training - this is expensive wasted potential
Berlin, May 02, 2024: "Almost 50,000 students drop out of school every year. Around 2.9 million young people between the ages of 20 and 34 have not completed vocational training. In view of the lack of skilled workers, this is expensive wasted potential.
This makes internships all the more important as a bridge to professional life. After all, 60 percent of all companies find their trainees this way. By getting young people excited about vocational training in a practical test and showing them prospects, we are actively tackling two problems: We create future opportunities and reduce the shortage of skilled workers.
Our motto for the 'Summer of Vocational Training 2024' is: Vocational training offers the best starting opportunities. That's why we, together with our SCHULEWIRTSCHAFT network, provide employers with tailor-made offers for a successful transition from school to work."
With the "Summer of Vocational Training", ministries, authorities, business and trade unions are jointly promoting vocational training in Germany under the umbrella of the Alliance for Initial and Further Training from the beginning of May to the end of October. The focus is on communicating the diversity, attractiveness and career opportunities of dual vocational training. The events are aimed at young people, parents and companies and reach around 400,000 people every year.
