Employers' association president Dr. Rainer Dulger comments on the European Parliament's vote on the Omnibus I package:
EU needs a change of course: reduce bureaucracy, strengthen the economy
Berlin, October 22, 2025. "Chancellor Merz is right: we need a radical reduction in bureaucracy and a clear change of course for the EU in order to achieve greater competitiveness.
The geopolitical winds have become harsher. The European Parliament's refusal to relieve the burden on companies as quickly as possible is a fatal signal. Omnibus I helps to at least flatten the burden curve for companies. The European Parliament is now pulling the handbrake instead of enabling greater competitiveness. We must help the European economy to finally shift back into overdrive.
The trilogue between the Commission, Parliament, and Council cannot wait and must begin as soon as possible. Companies need legal certainty and reliability.
Further ambitious steps must follow at the EU level. Much is in disarray: the internal market is weakening, there is too much national protectionism in labor mobility, and there are far too many burdens caused by bureaucratic hurdles such as the A1 certificate or the new Pay Transparency Directive."
