Berlin, 5 July 2021 Although the chances of finding an apprenticeship place are very good, many young people are unsettled by the pandemic and hesitate with their application. In these difficult times, it is therefore particularly the parents who support their children as advisors in their choice of career. They must therefore be actively involved in career guidance more than ever before.
In the "Summer of Vocational Training", the BDA, as a partner of the Alliance for Initial and Continuing Training, is therefore conducting a week of "Parental Work in Vocational Orientation" from 5 to 9 July 2021 together with SCHULEWIRTSCHAFT. In the daily webinars, aspects of parental work will be addressed, scientific studies presented, a digital parents' evening presented and checklists for internships provided. The Federal Employment Agency is involved.
Dates and information on the webinars can be found at www.schulewirtschaft.de >>.
Christina Ramb, member of the BDA's Executive Board: "Parents play a central role in career guidance. They know their child best and, as confidants, are good advisors. When young people are stuck in a dead end, it is often the parents who help them out and show them how to move forward. But parents also have many questions - they often lack information about the professions and their future opportunities. That's why we want to provide better support for those involved in career guidance in terms of parental work".
Detlef Scheele, Chairman of the Board of the Federal Employment Agency: "Finding the right job or the right course of study is a major challenge for young people. In addition to career guidance, parents and guardians are also important partners in this process. They know their children's strengths and weaknesses and can advise their child in making a decision. It is important that parents stay in contact with their son or daughter, even if it does not work out immediately with an apprenticeship or a course of study. We also support parents in their important role by offering them topic-related information events, for example."
Background: The partners of the Alliance for Initial and Continuing Training have jointly launched the "Summer of Vocational Training" to strengthen vocational orientation and to draw attention to the very good training opportunities.
