The Confederation of German Employers' Associations (BDA) comments on the EU directive proposal on European pay transparency:
Berlin, 04 March 2021. The European Commission is barking up the wrong tree if it believes that this proposal will make a difference to real equality between men and women. Instead of shifting all the responsibility onto companies with bureaucratic burdens, the Commission should look at the actual causes of the so-called gender pay gap. These lie, above all, in the different career biographies of men and women, from the choice of career to family breaks and part-time work. What we need is a targeted improvement in employment and career prospects - for example, through a good childcare infrastructure, stereotype-free career guidance and the promotion of initiatives to reconcile family and career.
