Economic policy is the mother of all topics in this election campaign

Berlin, December 17, 2024: "All parties must provide answers to the economic crisis. The top priority must be to make the business location competitive again. We need structural reforms. We need a change in policy. We need to take action.

Without a strong economy, there can be no prosperity, no secure employment, no solidly financed social system and no reliable international partner. One thing is therefore clear: economic policy is the mother of all issues in this election campaign.

With its election program, the CDU/CSU is offering many of the right things to boost the economy. We welcome this. Reducing income and corporation tax and abolishing the solidarity surcharge are the right way forward. It is also right to want to stop rising social spending, make working hours more flexible and consistently reduce bureaucracy. We need more freedom and less government in the economy."
