Employer President Dulger agrees with Economics Minister Altmaier on close coordination for economic recovery after Corona pandemic

Berlin, 16 December 2020: Federal Minister of Economics Peter Altmaier today met with the new President of the Confederation of German Employers' Associations (BDA), Dr Rainer Dulger. Both agreed that it is important to set the right framework conditions now for the competitiveness of the German economy. Dr Dulger was previously President of the employers' association Gesamtmetall. During the discussion, Federal Minister Altmaier emphasized the importance of employer representatives as dialogue partners, especially in the difficult economic situation caused by the Corona crisis.

Federal Minister of Economics Altmaier: "We must now set the course to emerge stronger from this crisis. The Corona pandemic has once again increased the pressure on companies to make economic changes due to digitalisation, globalisation and climate change. We want to support companies in this as much as possible. Employers are therefore an important dialogue partner so that we set the right framework conditions for business."

Employer President Dulger expressed his thanks for the constructive exchange and for the willingness to engage in dialogue: "Germany has done many things right in recent months and we have come through this severe crisis comparatively well so far. The aid provided by the federal and state governments was vital and necessary for the survival of the companies affected. Now we also have to talk about the time after Corona in order to get the economic train moving again. I therefore very much welcome the fact that Federal Economics Minister Altmaier is taking the concerns of the business community seriously and that we are all pulling in the same direction. Because it's also true that all that money has to be earned again at some point. And it has to be earned by those who will have to shoulder the burden of the upswing next year. This will only work if no obstacles are placed in the way of companies. That's why we urgently need a moratorium on burdens for the German economy."
