Employers' President Dr. Rainer Dulger comments on the labour market figures published today:
We need a fresh start in labor market policy
Berlin, July 31, 2025: "Almost three million unemployed sends a clear message: we need a fresh start in labor market policy. It is not enough to continue the policy of the traffic light government with a few cosmetic corrections.
Placement must be at the top of the labor market policy agenda. The work of the Federal Employment Agency and the central labor market policy instruments must once again be consistently geared towards this goal.
The citizen's income must not just be renamed, but must once again be a bridge to employment. This is not just about sanctions, but above all about the interface between employment and wage replacement benefits. People who work must have more net from their additional earnings - that is crucial.
The net theft caused by the explosion in social security contributions is an obstacle to employment and an invitation to undeclared work. If politicians do not also focus on health, long-term care and pension insurance contributions, the necessary turnaround will not succeed.
The labor market figures are not based on coalition compromises. Politicians must not do what is comfortable, but must tackle what is necessary. A change in policy should not wait for August, but start acting today."
