Employers' President Dr. Rainer Dulger comments on today's communication from the European Commission for a Union of Skills, a strategic plan for STEM education and an action plan for basic skills:
We need better STEM skills in Europe
Berlin, March 5, 2025: "If we want to make the EU competitive, we need excellent education systems in all member states. It is right that the European Commission is promoting future skills with its 'Union of Skills'. Only with the right skills can we combat the shortage of skilled workers and ensure future viability.
Continuing vocational training must always be geared towards specific needs. These can vary greatly from individual to company to company. Blanket European further training requirements miss their purpose here.
Europe must assert itself internationally as a technology location. In order to achieve this goal, it is necessary to expand STEM funding across the entire education chain."
