Commenting on the Council's approval of the EU Supply Chain Directive, BDA Managing Director Steffen Kampeter said:
EU supply chain directive bazaar casts shadow over EU legislation
Berlin, March 15, 2024: "The impasse over EU supply chain regulation has ended with a rotten compromise. An opaque political bazaar replaces transparent and democratic decisions. This is damaging the acceptance of Europe.
This directive does not create any added value for human rights - at best, it is a procurement program for the international litigation industry. Companies do not need more regulation, they need freedom to grow competitively. This will also improve social and environmental conditions.
The few last-minute improvements made to the legal text cannot hide the fact that the directive fails to achieve its fundamentally correct objective. It will only result in high costs for companies. Provisions on corporate due diligence obligations should have been practicable and precisely targeted."
