BDA managing director Steffen Kampeter explains the planned reform of the nursing care system:

Berlin, 01 June 2021: "The care reform is unfortunately an announced breach of promise by the Federal Government and a little purposeful actionism in the political closing sale of the ending legislature. According to the motto "After me, the deluge", new costs are being produced for the nursing care insurance system, which cannot be paid for as early as next year with the counter-financing that has now been decided and will therefore inevitably lead to increases in contribution rates. This will not solve the structural challenges facing the nursing care insurance system, and future generations as well as the contributors will become the pawns of party-political profiling.

This is the opposite of a sustainable policy. All those who seek the social contribution guarantee cannot agree to this draft. The cap on social security contributions at 40 per cent remains indispensable.

In addition: it is tried to intervene again in the tariff autonomy. In spite of above-average increases in pay in nursing care, the Federal Government is playing collective bargaining partners from the sidelines. This defacto nationalisation of the nursing sector is intended to force private companies out of the nursing market in practice. This is not only a violation of the freedom of association, but also of the freedom to practise the profession. State economy in nursing is neither in the interests of the people to be cared for nor of the nursing staff."
