I am very dissatisfied with how little political recognition is given to the importance of companies in Germany. And as the managing director of a medium-sized family business, I would like to use these few lines to show why I am. I founded my company - Hofmann Personal with the business areas of temporary employment and personnel placement - in 1985 with 30,000 DM, which I had borrowed from my father. It was a young industry in Germany at the time. Today it is indispensable for many companies as an external personnel reserve. After three years of crisis with the well-known causes, our turnover of just under one billion euros in 2018 slumped by over 20 percent and is slowly recovering. Back to the topic: &quot;The importance of companies for a functioning society&quot; We have been observing a decline in the number of start-ups in Germany for years. Why is that? I know from my daughter&#039;s business studies that the personal risks of self-employment are explained to young students right from the start. That&#039;s probably also the case in Germany. According to the federal government, there are currently 1,773 laws and 2,655 ordinances, the majority of which seem to affect companies. Could it be that, despite all the promises, there are more new laws than superfluous ones have been abolished? The order of the day: reduce bureaucracy! My demand: Founders who have the courage to take responsibility, invest their own money, create jobs and look after employees should not be burdened even more by excessive regulation, but should receive the recognition they deserve! Let&#039;s remember the time of the pandemic. We employers had to deal with the effects of political decisions. Working parents suddenly had to take on the tasks of teachers working from home and in some cases also look after elderly family members. At the same time, urgent professional tasks had to be completed. Where would toilet paper and food come from if logistics companies and food businesses were not running at full speed? Some of this overall coordination was shifted to the companies, where there were also new political requirements almost every week. You could feel sorry for some sectors with so many incomprehensible decisions. Recently, I have repeatedly had the feeling that politicians are making decisions without thinking about how they will be implemented in companies. Personally, I can&#039;t always tell whether regulations are based on German requirements or whether they are further developments based on EU regulations. I sometimes wonder whether implementation in other European countries is really the same as in our bureaucracy-loving Germany.
