Alarming school performance studies: employers rely on young people as the next generation of employees for today and tomorrow. They should have a reliable general education from school in order to make a good start to their careers. Our business location depends existentially on Germany as a location for education. However, all empirical studies on school quality and educational equality show that there is a great and urgent need for action. Most recently, the figures from the IQB Education Trend 2021 were alarming, according to which 20% of pupils at the end of elementary school are unable to solve simple math problems or read and write correctly. In just a few years, these pupils will be standing in front of companies for their first internship and apprenticeship. The results for PISA 2022, i.e. for 15-year-olds, are also unlikely to be any better. The issue of school quality is therefore highly relevant for employers - as it is for the young people themselves. In our position paper, we propose 10 key points for better school quality: Education must start before daycare with individual support. The educational standards and learning objectives must be continuously reviewed in order to systematically identify the need for action and to be able to take targeted measures. Schools need leeway and, depending on the social situation, additional resources in order to be able to respond to their pupils in a tailored manner. Young people with unfavorable starting conditions need personal support and continuous encouragement, especially in language training. The minimum standards must be priorities and be communicated to every pupil. Digital media must be used more than before for better and individualized learning. The Digital Pact for Schools 2.0 and the competence centers must be designed in such a way that they contribute to this. The increasing number of full-day classes can be used very well for additional individual support and for extracurricular activities. Teachers need practical training and effective further training that contributes to the further development of school quality. Young people&#039;s social and personal skills are important 21st century skills, including career choice skills. The school supervisory board must see itself as a service provider and actively accompany and support the school in its development. School policy must be more evidence-based than before, learn from successful programs in other countries and take a sustainable and impact-oriented approach. The goal must be an adequately equipped, efficient and independent school that guides its pupils towards their learning goals and accompanies them - even in unfavorable social situations - to graduation and integration.
